Muravlenko

The community of Muravlenko sprang up on the back of industrial development of Muravlenkovskaya group of oil deposits located in Purovsky region of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District. The first oil deposit to open in Muravlenkovsky region was Sutorminskoye, which is one of the biggest in Western Siberia.

A significant part of history of Muravlenko is connected with history of oil and gas production department Sutorminskneft (OGPD SN). It was founded with the order by the minister of oil industry of USSR #182 d/d April 10, 1982, with a view to provide an expeditious launch of Sutorminskoye and Muravlenkovskoye deposits.

Oilmen specialists arrived from many regions of USSR, as well as those who wanted to change their regular lifestyle to troublesome shifts near boring machines and pumping units. This is how the future town Muravlenko started to grow on this swamped area.

As of the beginning of 1984, in the settlement there lived 1,600 people. By that time, the place had got to have: a canteen, a store, a primary care clinic, an automatic telephone station, a TV camera unit. The same year over 30,000 square meters of accommodation were built. The year of 1984 became notable for Muravlenko. Following the decision of Tyumen Regional Executive Committee d/d November 05, 1984, the village Soviet of Muravlenko was founded; this is considered to be the date of the town's birthday.

In December 1984 in the township of Muravlenko the first 30 workers of the construction train Ukrtyumenzhilstroy arrived. Four hundred thousand square meters of accommodation - two thirds of the housing stock of Muravlenko - was built by them.

During the period of intense construction complete housing complexes sprang up at full pelt. Today we can say that mass construction is over. The appearance of the town is already fashioned. It has got its identity, its distinctive color.

In 1990 in the history of Muravlenko another significant event happened: according to a Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of RSFSR, the township of Muravlenko became a town of district subordination.

In 2004 the town was 20. Today in Muravlenko there live over 36,000 people of various nationalities. The average age of the population is 29 years old.

Since 1995 the town has opened a regional ecological museum, a vocational municipal college, two hockey pitches, a center of patriotic upbringing, the club Lira, the school of choreography Rhythm, a children's school of arts, a surgery complex, a hydropathic, a boarding school for children of indigenous population, and three branches of higher institutions. An orthodox church was built, and the construction of a mosque is about to be finished.
