Priuralsky region is one of the oldest in the autonomous district. It was founded according to a resolution of All-Russia General Executive Committee d/d December 10, 1930, simultaneously with the creation of Yamalsky (Nenetsky) National District. At first its administrative center was the township of Schuchye.

The region is located in the north-west of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District, spreading from the Baydaratskaya Bay of the Kara Sea to the northern taiga woods of Poluyskaya Highland. The square of the region is 66,000 square kilometers. The Arctic Circle goes across Priuralsky region, splitting it into two almost equal halves.

Presently, the regiolan center is the township of Aksarka; the centers of village regions are: Kharsaim, Schuchye, Byeloyarsk, Katravozh, Zeleny Yar. The region settles over 8,000 people, 62 percent of them are the indigenous Nenets and Khanty, mainly engaged in traditional trades - deer farming and fishery.

The total square of wooded lands in the region is 2,743,379 ha, which is 41.6 percent of the total square of the region and 9.4 percent of woods of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District. Coniferous species are in dominant position - 93.7 percent. On the territory of the region there are 4 wildlife preserves of district importance: Polyarno-Uralsky, Poluysky, Sobtiyugansky, and Gornokhadatinsky, which serve as a basis for implementing the program Reacclimatization of Musk Buffalo in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District; in the valley of the river Kharbey there is a natural monument Kharbeysky, unique in its geological and landscape-geomorphological natural composition.

Priuralsky region takes an advantageous economic- and transport-geographical position, providing the shortest way to make a link between the regions of oil- and gas extraction of central and eastern parts of the region, as well as to connect Yamal with the European parts of the country and foreign states. The future of the region is associated with development of the abundant resources of Polar Ural. The various mineral resources - chromites, lead ores, phosphorites, barites, bauxites, gold, platinum, ornamental and gemstones, construction materials - give us the reason to speak about great industrial potential of Priuralsky region.

Agriculture is dominated by cattle breeding, distant pasture deer farming as part of it. 77.5 percent of the region square is allotted to deer pastures. The livestock of domestic deers counts over 55,000 units.

The leading agricultural enterprise of the region is CJSC Sovkhoz Baydaratsky, that specializes in breeding domestic deers (today livestock counts 10,700 units) and manufacturing deer-farming products (venison and sausage goods), which have, not even once, been awarded with a golden medal and Diplomas of the Green Exhibition, annually taking place in Germany. Sovkhoz has leather-and-fur and souvenirs' industries; there is tailoring of fur shoes. The sovkhoz commercial output is deer skins and fur farming skins.

Alongside with deer farming, the region is developing fishing industry. Catching and processing of vendible fish is under charge of OJSC Nadezhda (which still includes the oldest enterprise Aksarkovsky fish processing plant, as one of its parts), Gornoknyazevskaya community, and CJSC Sovkhoz Baydaratsky. The range of the goods produced is as follows: cold-smoked fish, dried and spice salted fish, fresh frozen and tinned produce. In 2004 the regional center restored the department of semi conserves' production.

In 1996 Priuralsky region became a municipality. On March 16, 1997, elections of deputies to the Regional Board of the Municipality of Priuralsky region took place. These were representatives of all the six village districts. In July 1997 the Regulation of Municipality was carried, which normalized numerous questions concerning the work of both representative and executive regulatory bodies of local authorities.

On April 23, 1999, according to a resolution of the Regional Board of Deputies, the coat of arms and the flag of the municipality were approved. The basic symbol of the region came to be deer farming, fishing and hunting. The green field on the coat of arms symbolizes the region's rich nature; besides, green is a symbol of hope, prosperity and health. The blue background and a fish illustrated mean that the region is located on the banks of the northern rivers rich in fish. Moreover, blue color is a symbol of sincerity, beauty and virtue. The silver bar represents the subsurface wealth of Polar Ural. Silver in blazonry is a symbol of simplicity, perfection and wisdom.

In 1995 V. Voronkin became the head of Priuralsky region administration; since 1997 up to now he has been the head of the Municipality of Priuralsky region. Having taken up the post, V. Voronkin set himself a priority task to build accommodation and buildings of social-household purpose in each settlement. There has been capital construction since 2000. During this period some boiler houses consuming liquid fuel were launched; a gas diesel power station and wastewater treatment plant in Aksarka were built; tens of kilometers of high-voltage power lines were pulled. In 2004 only, at the cost of local and district budgets, the region have put into service over 5,000 square meters of housing; there have been completed projects like a school in Beloyarsk; a bathing-laundry plant, a hotel, circular water line in the region center; a sports gym in Kharsaim; the next projects on the completion list are a polyclinic with a capacity of 75 patients per shift, a Center of National Cultures in Aksarka, a number of other buildings of production and social-household purposes.

The chain of educational institutions joins 15 units: schools, kindergartens, an orphanage, and boarding houses of family type.
