The official interpretation of the coat of arms of the autonomous district

1. The coat of arms of the autonomous district is compiled according to set armorial rules. It is, to some extend, a monument of succession of region history and culture which reflects its nature and climatic peculiarities and the key activities of the local population.

2. In working out the coat of arms of the autonomous district there were used four basic armorial colors: azure, white (silver), red, and golden. Every color symbolizes something: azure - a symbol of grandeur, creation, beauty, a color of the sky and water (seas, rivers, lakes); white (silver) - a symbol of purity, kindness, rebirth, independence, pure thoughts and intentions, the color of white snows; red - a symbol of life and unity; golden - a symbol of power, wealth, justice, generosity. Gold in the coat of arms of the autonomous district allegoristically reveals the unique northern nature, inexhaustible riches of the resources of the autonomous district.

3. Reindeer symbolizes power and independence of the terrain.

The coat of arms of Yamal was enrolled to the State Heroldia under the President of Russian Federation with N584.

The width of the white pattern, represented as ornament of geometrically regular figures "Reindeer antlers", is eight tenths of the total width of the horizontal pattern. The red and blue stripes are the same in width and correspond to the width of the ornament footing, i.e. each is equal to one tenth of the total width of the horizontal pattern. Each unit forming the ornament is diamond-shaped and takes 1/1350 of all the area of the flag.

Each ornament consists of 9 equal diamonds. The proportion of the flag width to its length is 2:3.
